The adoration for all things on two wheels started at the influential age of 13 for Rahul. The family business of small engine repair led to Rahul's addiction to his 50cc scooter in his native Delhi, India. At the age of 16, Rahul's insatiable thirst for higher levels of performance was met with an equipment upgrade to a 2 stroke Yamaha 125. Many a day was spent with his relatives and older local sensations to enhance his skills - this eventually led to Rahul competing in local racing events. 19 years old and mildly seasoned in riding, repairing and racing motorcycles, Rahul moved to Canada. His history around motorcycles and youthfulness are coupled with discipline, intensity, and competitiveness. traits well suited to racing.

Rahul purchased a brand new Yamaha YZF-R6 - after a brief ride home and a few moments to revel in its beaty, Rahul registered for his first track day to hone his skill on the track and familiarize himself with the negotiations between his abilities and the capabilities of the motorcycle. It was quickly clear that his thirst for challenging competition would not be satisfied with simple track days and with the prodding from existing racers and no argument from the motorcycle, he decided to pursue the next step in his racing evolution.

Rahul studied the fundamentals of F.A.S.T. under the tutelage of Michel Mercier to polish his skills and refine his abilities. As a personal test and not a quest for points, Rahul decided to test the waters by registering for a R.A.C.E. sanctioned event with the intentions of preparing for the 2005 season. He qualified in every race that he entered and finished 19th in AM SuperBike on a 600cc motorcycle after starting 34th in his first R.A.C.E. event in 2004.

With his first completed season in 2005, Rahul finished Top10 in R.A.C.E. AM600 events points standing as a rookie for 2005, with his best finish @ 6th spot at the last regional. Rahul also finished Top15 in National AM600 class as a rookie.

With a lot of experience and lessons learned from the 2005 year, Rahul was geared up to have a strong presence in the 2006 AM600 and SuperBike series and achieve his goal to win a championship.

The 2006 season began on an extremely strong note for Rahul. Rahul traveled to Virginia, USA, to perform pre-season testing and tuning of his equipment, and to recapture the thrill of the race, which he had greatly missed during the long off-season. He competed in a WERA event held at Virginia International Raceway in March 2006. He quickly adapted to this unfamiliar track, locating his race lines quickly and accurately, and while he started 42 nd on the grid (due to no previous race experience in the United States he was forced to begin at the back of the grid), he finished at an impressive 13 th spot during a 16 lap race.

Continuing all of this excitement into the Canadian opening regional at Shannonville, ON, Rahul started on pole during his season opening qualifying race. He was able to lead the whole race until he ran out of fuel in the last corner, and was passed by another rider. He still managed to finish 2 nd, the best finish of his career thus far, securing him a front row starting position on the grid for the main event. Last minute suspension and tire compound changes to his bike, made shortly before the race began, ultimately backfired, reducing rather than improving his bike’s performance and speed. Rahul finished a disappointing 7 th in the race and 5 th in point standing, but was still pumped about a strong start to the season, and was looking forward to making a strong comeback towards the championship.

Unfortunately, on the first day following the race, Rahul was in an accident. While riding his street bike a car driver made an illegal right turn from the left lane, hitting Rahul’s bike. The resulting injuries put a halt to his 2006 racing season. While recovering Rahul was selected as one of 18 participants, out of 5000 applicants, to compete in the reality TV show StarRacer on the Discovery Channel. Rahul was selected to participate despite having no car racing background. Eight episodes of Star Racer provided Rahul great opportunity to learn more about racing and nationwide exposure on national TV.

However, Rahul is recovering and will be ready to grab the AM 600/Superbike title for the 2008 season. Rahul had a strong return, from his injury, still not 100% and riding hurt at the Mosport National race by setting up the pace starting from Thursday practice being the quickest rider in his class. Furthermore, Rahul was able to qualify 4 th and finished 6 th during the Mosport National. Rahul focused on the season finale at the SMP and right off the bat set the fastest time in Friday’s Practice, Saturdays Practice and secured the Pole position during the qualifiers making him the quickest AM600 rider at Shannonville. Rahul got tangled up during the race while running at third place that forced him to go off the race track. Rahul had a disappointing finish at 12 th place during the race but brushed it off to focus on his efforts to secure the National and Regional Championship in 2008.
